The artist Charles Henry Sims lived there in the early 1900s.[1]

In 1924, the Ancient Order of Froth Blowers was founded at its Swan Inn.[2]

It was served by Fittleworth railway station, on a branch line of the now-defunct Midhurst Railways, from 1889 to 1963.[3]

It was the home of the composer Elgar for a number of years.
